In the gazette notification issued by the Centre, the State is allowed to formulate the modalities on its own for implementing amended Presidential order in the State to make relevant changes to ‘local status’ norms. This fulfills the long-pending demand of AP employees in Hyderabad, who want their Hyderabad born children to get seats in good educational institutes in their own State and also become eligible for availing employment opportunities in the residuary state.

In fact, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had written to the Centre during last October, urging it to make relevant changes to the Presidential Order of 1975 so as to grant local status to people, who will migrate to AP from Telangana till June 2, 2017. Under the earlier provisions, four years of continuous study in a particular State would give local status to candidates for admission into colleges and direct recruitment to government jobs.
