Tech-savvy AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu will get a roof-top helipad at the proposed interim secretariat complex at Velagapudi village in the upcoming capital city of Amaravati. It is the first time a chief minister in India will have a helipad right above his office chambers. Naidu will also be one of the few VIPs in the country to have a roof-top helipad at the workplace or residence.
The chief minister’s office at the temporary secretariat is being planned in such a way that Naidu can simply step off the helicopter and walk into his chambers. Officials said the roof-top helipad will help Naidu to heli-hop from his office to the airport at Gannavaram, about 50 km away , without any disruption to the heavy traffic in Vijayawada city .
“We’re finalizing the plan for the chief minister’s office, including the helipad,“ said N Srikanth, commissioner, AP Capital Region Development Authority . There will be six bu ildings in all. A block in one of them will be used exclusively for the chief minister’s office.Above it will be the helipad spread over 2,000 sq ft. The area will be expanded if required.
The building plan given to the two construction companies, Shapoorji Pallonji and Larsen & Toubro, includes the helipad design. The task of building the helipad will be taken up by Shapoorji Pallonji. The government will not pay extra money to the firm for crea ting the heli pad and rela ted facilities. It is estimated that the heli pad, which will be linked to the chief minister’s chambers through a lift, will cost about Rs 1crore.
During his last stint as chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Naidu had planned to heli-hop from his residence in Jubilee Hills to the secretariat, 6km away . A helipad was even developed at Dr Marri Channa Reddy HRD Institute near his residence. But the idea of developing a helipad at the secretariat was abandoned following an outcry from various sections.
