Vizag – Chennai industrial corridor ( VCIC ) is an important part of the East Coast economic corridor and the extent of it is considered from Pydibheemavaram in Srikakulam district to Chennai in Tamilnadu. The corridor is therefore covering the coast of AP comprehensively. In the corridor a number of infrastructure projects are planned which would link various manufacturing clusters and gateways such as ports and airports to a central spinal road, rail and utilities infrastructure.
- The potential nodes identified as a part of VCIC are :1. Visakhapatnam;
4. Gannavaram – Kankipadu.
- Out of these 4 nodes, Visakhapatnam and Srikalahasti-Yerpedu nodes are prioritized in the 1st phase of the project.
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) mission held discussions with the GoAP on the immediate infrastructure need to strengthen the competitiveness of VCIC, especially in the two prioritized nodes and agreed on a policy based loan of about $100 million (ADB – full amount) and an investment project of about $600 million (ADB financing -$400 million).
