Academic activity at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tadepalligudem, was formally inaugurated with students participating in orientation classes on 10th September.
NIT, which is the first in the state and 31st in the chain across the country , is functioning from the tem porary campus at Sri Vasa vi Engineering College (SVEC). Ministers P Mani kyala Rao, Gokaraju Ganga Raju and Kamineni Srini vas inaugurated the classes and said the institute would be developed on a par with other prestigious institutions in the country. While NIT-Warangal will be undertaking the responsibility of mentoring the new institute till regular arrangements are made, NIT-Warangal director will be officiate as men tor director of NIT-AP .
This is part of the Rs 3000 cr push for higher education in AP being funded by the union government. The Centre proposes to invest about Rs 700 crore in IIT-Tirupati, Rs 300 crore in NIT, Rs 680 crore in IIM- Visakhapatnam, Rs 870 crore in IISER near Tirupati and over Rs 480 crore in other institutes of higher education.
