Two celebrities, actor Krishnam Raju and producer Ashwini Dutt, who own around 70 acres of land in villages around the Vijayawada Airport in Gannavaram are set to lose it for the development of the airport. The process of collecting land for Vijayawada Airport at Gannavaram reached climax as government is positively responding to the demands of farmers of the three villages— Ajjampudi, Budhavaram and Kesarapalli, which are adjacent to the existing airport.
Plans are already chalked out by top infrastructure firms to build a world-class airport terminal in the acquired lands on the lines of the inter-national airport in Hyderabad. However, it was halted due to opposition from farmers who sought equal compensation for all and some others who sought land in the capital region on the lines of land pooling scheme. The two celebrities Krishnam Raju and Aswini Dutt who own large chunks of
land would also have to lose the land. The farmers who put their demands before the district collector and other officials a month ago in the city approached the government. On Monday, the farmers met government officials in Hyderabad. Around 100 farmers who opted for land pooling wanted land in the capital region, that is, a residential plot of 1,000 square yards and a commercial plot of 450 square yards. Government listed out the farmers who opted for land pooling.
