After the state was bifurcated and Andhra Pradesh was reborn as a new state, its CM Chandrababu Naidu had an enviable job on hand. The main point of pain was creation of new jobs. IT sector, which is the main job generating sector is concentrated in Hyderabad (and hence in Telangana). Even if Naidu was to rely on his proven skills in attracting IT to the new AP, sectoral prospects for IT both nationally and globally were not looking very bright. Hence Naidu rightly concentrated on attracting manufacturing sector and coupled Modi’s “Make in India” slogan with “Made in AP”.
He is going earnestly about the task, he being the workaholic that all of us know of, and has already been successful in attracting Hero Honda to Nellore, Asian Paints to Vizag and Nuclear Fuel Complex to Kurnool. That these companies have been brought in to AP against a stiff competition from neighboring states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana speaks of his determination. Hats off to him !!
However, AP is still in its infancy as far as manufacturing is concerned. It is nowhere close, compared to states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Western UP ( inclusing parts of Delhi), Haryana ( including Gurgaon), Tamil nadu or even Karnataka. That means Naidu and his efforts have a long way to go. But let us be happy that it is a effort well begun and hence AP can only go higher and higher up in the manufacturing activity.
Following table shows excise collections from various revenue zones in the country. Don’t be disheartened that Vizag is not at the top. We can only go up from here.
