Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) unit set to come up in Orvakallu mandal of Kurnool district

After being successful in its efforts to get the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) electronic warfare projects and evaluation facility (DRDO Lab) in the state, Andhra Pradesh government is now on the verge of getting the coveted Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) unit in Kurnool district. 

nuclear fuel complex at orvakallu kurnoolWith NFC authorities evincing interest in expanding the NFC pro-ject, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao held a meeting with CEO of NFC Sal Baba and offered 900 acre devel-oped land at Orvakallu mandal of the Kurnool district. “There is competition from two other states. We are pushing it in favour of Andhra Pradesh and the deal is almost finalised. Under the fast-track single window facility, all rele-vant permissions and facilities would be given to NFC to set up its expansion facility in Kurnool district,” sources said.

When contacted, Chief Secretary Mr Krishna Rao confirmed that during a meeting with NFC CEO and APIIC chairman and AP Industries Principal Secretary, he directed APIIC to alienate and allot fully developed 900 acres land in Orvakallu of Kurnool district to NFC. “The NFC wants to set up its expansion facility. It will be a minimm of 26,000 crore investment project and the NFC is willing to bear even the charges incurred for development of 900 acres land with all facilities.” Mr Krishna Rao said. APIIC chairman Krishnaiah said they have over 30.000 acres of gov-ernment land in Kurnool district. “There is no prob-lem with the land. We have sufficient land bank in the district,” he said.
