Greatandhra.com reports ” After 3 years of continued efforts and several meetings with Telugu Linguists and Telugu Language professors in U.S institutions,and multiple revisions of the books to comply with California State Standards and guidelines, on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 Silicon Andhra ManaBadi ‘s Telugu language curriculum was approved by Fremont Unified School District, Board of Education as a World language to be offered as ‘for credit’ course in FUSD high schools. Students in grades 9 – 12. Attending any of the Fremont Unified School district’s high schools will now be able to enroll in a Telugu class offered by Silicon Andhra ManaBadi and earn high school credits. Silicon Andhra ManaBadi is the only Telugu language school in the World to have received this recognition.”
The recognition does not come as a surprise. In a survey by Fremont Unified School, out of non-English families, 5% of students were identified as Telugu speakers behind only Spanish (30%) and Mandarin ( 17%) leaving all other world and Indian language speakers far behind.
